There are still incentives for heat pumps in Nova Scotia in 2026, but they are more limited and more targeted than the big stackable grants and interest‑free loans that were available up to 2025.

What’s still available in 2026?

  • Efficiency Nova Scotia Home Energy Assessment path: Nova Scotians can still get up to about $5,000 in heat pump rebates by going through the Home Energy Assessment / Home Energy Retrofit stream, which replaced the old stand‑alone heating system rebates that closed to new applications on December 31, 2025.​

  • Moderate‑income provincial programs: Middle‑income households can still access enhanced provincial rebates, with sources indicating up to roughly $15,000 in total rebates for qualifying moderate‑income participants through provincial programs linked to Efficiency Nova Scotia.​

  • Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA): The federal OHPA program remains open in Nova Scotia in early 2026 and can provide up to $10,000 federally, plus up to $5,000 in matched provincial funding (total up to $15,000) to switch from oil to a cold‑climate heat pump, subject to income and oil‑use eligibility.

Programs that have ended or changed:

  • Standalone Heating System Rebates (Efficiency NS): The simple “apply online for a heat pump rebate” program is closed to new applications as of December 31, 2025; access is now mainly via the Home Energy Assessment / retrofit programs and income‑qualified streams.​

  • Canada Greener Homes Grant (federal): The grant portion is closed to new Nova Scotia applicants, with November 30, 2025 the deadline to finish post‑retrofit evaluations; homeowners are now directed to other funding options like OHPA and newer affordability programs.​

  • Canada Greener Homes Loan: The interest‑free loan up to about $40,000 closed to new applications in 2025 and has not been restarted under the same name; 2026 emphasis is on targeted affordability and oil‑to‑heat‑pump programs rather than broad 0% loans.

How this compares to 2025

  • The big stackable combo you may have seen before (Greener Homes Loan + provincial rebates + OHPA, sometimes pushing total support into the tens of thousands plus 0% financing) is not fully available anymore in 2026 due to federal loan and grant closures.​

    • However, meaningful support still exists:

      • Up to ~$5,000 via Efficiency NS retrofit/assessment paths for general homeowners.​

      • Up to ~$15,000 for moderate‑income or oil‑to‑heat‑pump households through OHPA plus provincial top‑ups.

Heating Assistance Rebate Program: Separate from installation grants, the province still offers a $400 heating assistance rebate per household for low‑income residents for the 2025–26 heating season (applications Oct 1, 2025–Mar 31, 2026), but this does not reduce heat pump install cost directly.
